WoW/D3/SC2 Tools Update (Windows)

Battle.net Update Agent and Blizzard Launcher manual update.

The reason it's being posted here and the reason someone might need these files is because of how the Agent updates itself and the launcher. The new Diablo III and MoP launcher needs to download two additional torrent files during the update process, this obviously may cause trouble for college students or anyone behind strict firewalls which blocks P2P because it causes the Tools and Launcher updates to fail whenever the torrent file can't be downloaded.

The following files should help if you're getting "Failed to update tools" or if your launcher is taking 10min or more to initialize.

Updating Tools (0%) Updating Blizzard Launcher (0%)

These are not official patches but the files in it are the ones provided by Blizzard and were not modified in any way. The exe will extract the new files to the correct location and wont do anything else. They do not need admin privileges to run either.

Choose one of the following methods (No need to use more than one) to update the Launcher (Agent).

Your browser/AV may find the EXE files suspicious but it's only because of the low number of downloads. This won't happen if you download the MPQ or ZIP file.

Method 1
.exe installer. Download and run to install.

Download link temporarily removed - A new version of the Agent and/or Launcher has been released. New version should be available soon. Before anyone asks, I will not post manual patches for the new Battle.net launcher.

Download, run and install. (Make sure Agent.exe is not running.)

The new tools are going to be extracted to:
- Win 7/8/Vista: "C:\ProgramData\Battle.net"
- Windows XP: "C:\Document and settings\All Users\Application Data\Battle.net"

- Windows 8 users: Click on "More info" and "Run Anyway".

Delete the existing Battle.net folder for a clean install. (Not required)

Method 2
Updated SetupWin.mpq

Download link temporarily removed - A new version of the Agent and/or Launcher has been released. New version should be available soon. Before anyone asks, I will not post manual patches for the new Battle.net launcher.

  • Instructions:
    1. Navigate to your World of Warcraft, Diablo III or StarCraft II folder.
    2. Rename the existing SetupWin.mpq to any name you want (to keep as a backup copy)
    3. Download the SetupWin.mpq above. (Remember to unzip the file if you download from GameFront)
    4. Save the file in your World of Warcraft, Diablo III or StarCraft II folder.
    5. Start the Launcher

If you don't have a Blizzard game installed, save the SetupWin.mpq file in the same folder as the Setup.exe -- be it WoW, D3, SC2 (live, ptr or beta) -- or in the same folder as the migration Setup file (in case you're trying to patch an old version of WoW or SC2) and run the setup.

Method 3
*full* Battle.net folder.

Download link temporarily removed - A new version of the Agent and/or Launcher has been released. New version should be available soon. Before anyone asks, I will not post manual patches for the new Battle.net launcher.

Download and extract to:

  • Win 7/8/Vista: "C:\ProgramData\Battle.net"
  • Windows XP: "C:\Document and settings\All Users\Application Data\Battle.net"

- The path on non-english versions of WinXP is localized, if you cant find it, Google it.

- Both, the "ProgramData" in 7/Vista and "Application Data" in XP, are hidden folders.

- Extract/Copy on top of the existing Agent and Client folders, merge the contents and replace existing files.
